Plymouth decks hero Guy Alexander is in the groove after winning a competition to unearth rising DJ talent in the city.
The event, organised by Plymouth's Dance Academy, featured hopeful DJs playing sets at Eyecon nights in the club to a wide audience.
Guy, 22, (real name Alex Roberts), from Mannamead, is no stranger to the South West DJ scene. He started playing trance in 2001 and received his first break playing alongside local DJ Steve Fudge at the Nemesis nights at Jesters.
He said: "Playing at Nemesis with Fudge was a brilliant experience for me - he helped to build up my confidence as well as encourage me to learn how to work a crowd. "Winning the DJ Competition has been the biggest highlight of my career so far, especially as I reached the final stage of last year's DJ competition as well."
Alex had wanted to be a DJ since he was 10, when a mix by pioneering DJ Carl Cox persuaded him to start listening to dance music. From there, his taste has progressed to the sounds of Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten.
He said: "Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten have been huge inspirations to my DJing career.
"I admire their productions and exceptional DJing skill, and I put my style of music solely down to these two talented gentlemen."
Alex is at the Dance Academy venue for the Saturday night Eyecon sessions every week, and plays both cutting edge uplifting trance and classics.
"The Dance Academy is an amazing place and I am very pleased to have been made a part of such a wicked club. I have been coming here for many years as a clubber. I have had some of the best nights of my life at the venue, and hope to have many more."
Alex plans to get into production in the future and to play his own tracks to a wide audience. "I want to thank Tom Costelloe for giving me the opportunity to play at the club, Steve Fudge and Damien James for all their encouragement and support as well as my family and friends."
You can catch Guy Alexander every Saturday at Eyecon at the Dance Academy.
